Listen to the podcast →Hey, beautiful Queen. Welcome to the space where we stop punishing our bodies — and start partnering with them. Where we remember that healing isn’t about controlling, fixing, or forcing. It’s about reconnecting.
I’m Alisha. And today we’re diving into a topic I believe every woman deserves to understand with full clarity: your hormones, your cycle, and the truth about what’s really going on inside your body.
Because most women who come to me are doing everything right. Eating clean. Exercising. Cutting caffeine. Meditating. And they’re still exhausted. Still bloated. Still moody. Still stuck on the same hormonal rollercoaster, month after month, year after year.
“And the reason, my love, is not that you’re weak, broken, or failing. It’s that you’re missing one foundational piece — connection.“
Connection to your biology. To your cycle. To the signals your body has been sending you for years that nobody ever taught you how to read.
That ends today.
The Great Lie We’ve Been Sold
We live in a world that glorifies the hustle. That teaches us more effort equals more results. More workouts. More discipline. More restriction.
But here’s what nobody told you: for the female body, that constant push is not the solution. It is the problem.
When you over-exercise while restricting calories — especially chronically — your body doesn’t respond by getting leaner and more energised. It goes into survival mode.
And because the female body is evolutionarily designed to create, nurture, and protect life, it is significantly more sensitive to stress signals than a male body. What a man can push through without consequence will shut down your hormonal system entirely.
The Biology Behind This
Your reproductive hormones — estrogen, progesterone, LH, FSH — are produced downstream from the same hormonal cascade that manages your stress response. When cortisol is chronically elevated, your body deprioritises reproduction and cycle function. It literally signals to your ovaries: “not safe to cycle right now.” This is not a flaw. It is intelligent biology operating as designed.
So what happens when chronic stress, under-eating, and over-training become your baseline?
Your system panics. Estrogen and progesterone begin to shut down. Your thyroid slows. Your metabolism crashes. Your body holds onto fat — refusing to let go no matter how disciplined you are. And your doctor runs standard bloods, says everything looks normal, and tells you it’s probably stress.
Which, ironically, it is. But not in the way they mean.
Your Cycle Is Your Fifth Vital Sign
In 2015, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists declared the menstrual cycle a vital sign — alongside blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, and respiratory rate.
Read that again. Your cycle is a vital sign.
Not a monthly inconvenience. Not a liability. A direct, real-time readout of your hormonal, metabolic, immune, and nervous system health. A window into what’s working — and what isn’t.
“Every cycle tells a story. Most women have never been taught to read it.”
A regular, pain-free cycle with predictable moods and manageable flow is a sign of vitality. Full stop. It is a reflection of a body that feels safe, nourished, and in balance.
The opposite — painful periods, debilitating PMS, irregular cycles, heavy bleeding, absent periods — are not just inconveniences to manage with ibuprofen and a hot water bottle. They are signals. They are your body telling you, in the clearest possible language it has, that something upstream needs attention.
Painful periods
Inflammation, estrogen dominance, low progesterone, prostaglandin imbalance — often driven by gut health, liver function, and mineral deficiency.
Severe PMS or PMDD
Low progesterone relative to estrogen, HPA axis dysregulation, low serotonin, magnesium deficiency — addressable with root-cause work.
Irregular or absent cycle
Under-eating, over-exercising, chronic stress, thyroid dysfunction, or PCOS — all of which respond to the right intervention.
Heavy or prolonged bleeding
Estrogen excess, low progesterone, thyroid dysfunction, fibroids, or adenomyosis — worth investigating, not just managing.
None of these are your destiny. None of them are “just part of being a woman.” Every single one has a root cause — and root causes have solutions.
The Biggest Mistake Women Make With Their Hormones
Here it is. The single most common pattern I see in every woman who comes to me — regardless of age, background, or how long she’s been struggling:
She tries to fix her hormones without addressing the root cause.
She adds more supplements. Tries a new elimination diet. Downloads a cycle tracking app. Books a hormone test. Gets told her results are “within normal range.” Feels confused, dismissed, and starts the cycle over again.
“Your symptoms are not the problem. They are the signal. The problem is always upstream.”
Your hormones do not malfunction in isolation. They are the output of an interconnected system — eight systems, to be precise. And in every woman I’ve worked with, there is one system that is the primary bottleneck. One system that, once it becomes overloaded, quietly suppresses everything else.
I call it the health handbrake.
When your handbrake is on — whether it’s your HPA axis under chronic stress, your gut unable to process and eliminate hormones efficiently, your thyroid running slow, or your liver overwhelmed with estrogen metabolism — no amount of progesterone cream, seed cycling, or hormone support protocol will give you lasting results. Because you’re treating the output without addressing the input.
The 8 Systems Behind Your Hormones
Understanding your hormones means understanding the ecosystem they live in. Here are the eight core systems that interact to produce your hormonal experience — and what happens when each one is overloaded.
Gut & Microbiome
Your gut contains the estrobolome — a collection of bacteria that metabolise and recirculate estrogen. Dysbiosis here leads to estrogen dominance, inflammation, and a compromised gut-brain axis that drives mood issues and food sensitivities.
Stomach Acid & Digestion
Low stomach acid impairs protein digestion, mineral absorption, and pathogen defence. Inadequate protein and mineral status directly disrupts neurotransmitter and hormone synthesis. This is frequently missed because it’s not tested on standard panels.
Liver & Detoxification
Your liver is responsible for packaging and clearing used hormones. An overburdened liver recirculates estrogen rather than eliminating it — the root driver of estrogen dominance in women who eat well and exercise regularly but still experience heavy, painful periods and stubborn fat.
Hormones & Cycle
Estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, LH, FSH, DHEA — the downstream outputs of everything upstream. Treating this system in isolation without addressing what’s driving the imbalance is the most common mistake in women’s health.
Thyroid Function
Every cell in your body has thyroid receptors. Subclinical hypothyroidism — TSH “normal” but T3 conversion impaired — is one of the most common undiagnosed drivers of fatigue, weight gain, hair loss, constipation, and depression in women. Standard thyroid testing misses it consistently.
Adrenal & HPA Axis
Your stress response system. When chronically activated, cortisol steals the precursors your sex hormones need, suppresses ovulation, impairs thyroid conversion, disrupts sleep, and drives belly fat storage. This system is the primary handbrake in the majority of women I work with.
Immune & Histamine
Estrogen stimulates histamine production — and histamine stimulates estrogen production. This feedback loop drives allergies, skin reactions, migraines, and PMS that worsen around ovulation and before menstruation. Autoimmune conditions are also dramatically more common in women — the immune-hormone connection is profound and underresearched.
Nervous System & Metabolism
Your nervous system state governs your metabolic rate, your digestion efficiency, your immune activation, and your hormonal environment. A body that cannot move out of sympathetic dominance — chronic fight-or-flight — cannot heal hormonally. Safety is not a luxury. It is a physiological requirement.
These eight systems are not separate departments. They are one integrated conversation. And in every woman, there is one system leading that conversation in the wrong direction. Find it — and everything else begins to reorganise.
Which of your 8 systems is the primary handbrake?
The free Her Holistic Scan scores all 8 systems against your unique symptom picture and identifies your primary root cause — in under 15 minutes.

The Four Hormonal Phases — Your Built-In Superpower
Every month, your body moves through four distinct hormonal phases — each with a different hormonal signature, a different set of strengths, and a different set of needs. Most women have been taught to see all of this as noise. As inconvenience. As something to medicate away.
What if instead you understood each phase so precisely that you could use it as a strategic advantage?
❄️
Menstrual — Inner Winter
Hormones at their lowest. Intuition highest. The body is shedding — this is real work. Rest here is not laziness. It is intelligence. The women who push through this phase pay for it in every other phase.
🌱
Follicular — Inner Spring
Estrogen rises. Clarity and creativity surge. This is your window for new projects, hard decisions, and pushing your training. Your brain is most plastic, most receptive, most open right now.
☀️
Ovulatory — Inner Summer
Estrogen and testosterone both peak. You are magnetic, articulate, and at peak physical performance. Book your important conversations here. Lead. Be visible. Your biology is literally optimised for connection and communication.
🍂
Luteal — Inner Autumn
Progesterone rises (when healthy). Energy turns inward. Detail, organisation, completion. If PMS is severe here, it is not a personality flaw — it is low progesterone, high cortisol, or estrogen dominance. A root-cause signal.
When you understand these phases, you stop fighting your body’s natural rhythm and start working with it. Your cycle stops being something that happens to you and becomes something you can actively leverage.
“Your cycle is not a liability. It is a 28-day strategic roadmap. Learn to read it and you will never feel at the mercy of your hormones again.”
What Your Body Is Actually Asking For
Most women come to me looking for the protocol. The supplement. The thing that will fix it.
And I understand that impulse — because when you’ve been suffering for years, you want the answer fast.
But here’s what I’ve seen in every woman I’ve worked with: the body doesn’t need more intervention. It needs more of the right conditions.
What Your Body Needs — Not What Wellness Culture Sells
Instead of restriction — nourishment
Enough protein. Enough fat. Enough calories to tell your hormonal system that resources are available and reproduction is safe. Most women are under-eating relative to their actual metabolic needs.
Instead of more workouts — strategic movement
Strength training 3–4x per week. Low-intensity movement daily. Intensity mapped to your cycle phase. Recovery treated as training — because it is.
Instead of managing stress — regulating the nervous system
Daily practices that bring the body out of sympathetic dominance. Not once a week yoga. Daily breathwork, morning sunlight, cold exposure, consistent sleep — the signals that tell your nervous system it is safe.
Instead of more supplements — the right foundations
Magnesium, zinc, omega-3, vitamin D3 — the minerals and nutrients most commonly depleted in women with hormonal issues. Not 20 supplements. The right ones, in the right doses, at the right time.
None of this is complicated in theory. All of it is hard to implement in isolation — without knowing which of your systems needs attention first, and without the accountability of someone who has been there.
That’s why I built the Her Holistic Scan. It’s the assessment I wish I’d had 10 years ago. The one that maps the full picture clearly and shows you — without guesswork — exactly where to start.
The Five Myths Keeping Women Stuck
❌ The Myth
“My bloods came back normal so my hormones are fine.”
✓ The Truth
Standard reference ranges are designed to detect disease, not optimise function. A progesterone level of 2 nmol/L might be “in range” but is completely insufficient for symptom-free cyclical health. Functional interpretation is different.
❌ The Myth
“PMS, cramps, and mood swings are just part of being a woman.”
✓ The Truth
They are common. They are not normal. Common means they occur frequently in the population. Normal means they are the biological baseline. A healthy cycle should be largely symptom-free. That is the standard — not the exception.
❌ The Myth
“The Pill regulates your hormones.”
✓ The Truth
Hormonal contraception suppresses your natural cycle and replaces it with a synthetic hormone cycle. It masks symptoms without addressing root cause. This is a valid choice — with full information. Most women are not given that information.
❌ The Myth
“Eating less and moving more will fix hormonal weight gain.”
✓ The Truth
Hormonal weight gain — particularly estrogen-dominant or cortisol-driven fat — does not respond to caloric restriction. It responds to hormonal rebalancing. Restricting calories further elevates cortisol, which worsens the pattern.
❌ The Myth
“Hormonal decline is inevitable and there’s nothing you can do.”
✓ The Truth
Some hormonal change with age is natural. Debilitating symptoms are not. How you age hormonally is profoundly influenced by lifestyle, nutrition, nervous system health, and — for those ready — clinical peptide support. The trajectory is not fixed.
So Where Do You Actually Start?
If you’ve read this far, you’re not looking for a quick fix. You’re looking for a real answer.
And the real answer starts with clarity. Not more information — but specific clarity about your body and which of your 8 systems needs attention first.
That’s exactly what the free Her Holistic Scan provides. It’s not a generic quiz. It’s a clinically-informed 15-minute assessment that scores each of your 8 core body systems, identifies your primary handbrake, and gives you a personalised next step.
I built it because I believe every woman deserves to understand her own body — without paying hundreds of dollars for a first consultation, without waiting months for a specialist appointment, and without being told “everything is normal” one more time.
“You are not broken. You are not weak. You are not imagining it. You have a handbrake — and it has a name. It’s time to find it.”

When lifestyle foundations aren’t moving the needle — peptides work at the cellular level.
For some women, the hormonal disruption goes deeper than food, sleep, and stress management can fully reach. Specific peptides work directly at the receptor level — supporting the HPA axis, modulating the immune-hormone connection, protecting gut integrity, and signalling the cellular environment that drives hormonal expression.
This isn’t a shortcut or a substitute for foundations. It is precision clinical support for a body that needs more than lifestyle alone can provide. I have used peptides personally for over 10 years. I guide every woman who is ready through the clinical process — safely, clearly, and with full oversight.
Relevant peptides:
- ✦ BPC-157
- ✦ Kisspeptin-10
- ✦ Selank
- ✦ KPV
- ✦ GHK-Cu
- ✦ Epithalon
Clinical oversight required
